Teledyne FLIR designs and manufactures products and systems that enhance perception using thermal imaging, visible light imaging, and video analytics. FLIR is an acronym for forward-looking infrared, a common form of night vision. Teledyne bought FLIR Systems in 2021. At that time, the company, founded in 1978, and based in Oregon, was well-established, with more than a dozen locations. The Goleta facility is located across the street from Raytheon Vision Systems, another of a few related technology companies in Goleta, which have made it a center for the production of advanced imaging and detection technologies related to defense and remote sensing.
