Plant 42 Sites 5 and 6

The administrative and airport functions of Plant 42 are south of the runway, near the middle of the airport. Located here is a terminal building that for years was used to fly contractors, mostly working for Lockheed, to and from the secret aerospace base at Groom Lake, Nevada, known as Area 51. Until the 1990s, the terminal and flights were managed by EG&G, a central contractor at Groom Lake (as well as for the atomic testing program at the Nevada Test Site, next to Groom Lake). The administrative headquarters for Plant 42 is located near this terminal. Though much of the land and buildings at Plant 42 are owned by the Air Force and leased to private companies working on Air Force programs, there are relatively few enlisted Air Force personnel at the site, and their job is administrative. Of the thousands of people who work at Plant 42 every day, nearly all are employees of civilian contractors.
