Northrop Grumman Space Park Redondo Beach

Space Park, mostly in Redondo Beach, is one of the major aerospace sites in the nation. It is the design and production campus for dozens of major satellites and space programs for the federal government, including NASA projects, like the James Webb Space Telescope, which was assembled here a few years ago, and numerous defense department space programs, including airborne lasers. Space Park was established in the late 1950s as the primary location for TRW, a company founded by Simon Remo and Dean Wooldridge, former Hughes employees, tasked by the federal government to design the nation’s first intercontinental ballistic missile system. Over the years TRW built many advanced and secretive satellite-based observational systems to monitor global nuclear tests and rocket launches. On campus, and scattered around its periphery, are dozens of buildings, including high-bay satellite assembly structures, specialty manufacturing buildings, and research facilities. TRW was bought by Northrop Grumman in 2002, and Space Park’s missions continue under new ownership.
