Honeywell’s largest facility in Southern California is located next to the 405 freeway in Torrance. This facility for developing, testing, and manufacturing aerospace components operated for years under AlliedSignal, the company that bought Honeywell in 1999, and took its name. AlliedSignal was already a conglomerate when it acquired the accumulated corporate assets of Honeywell, formed by the chemical industries of the Allied Company of New Jersey, and aerospace tech companies such as Sperry, Bendix, and Garrett. Honeywell’s Aerospace Technologies division, based in Phoenix, operates this facility, with a current focus on testing and control systems. Honeywell, known primarily for its climate control systems, also operates the Pantex Plant, in Texas, the nation’s nuclear weapons assembly plant.
