Among the aerospace companies that have a presence in the office park at Kearny Mesa (which include national companies BAE Systems, Raytheon, L3Harris, and Northrop Grumman), is the headquarters of Cubic Corporation. Cubic was founded in a storefront on Point Loma in 1951, making a microwave power measuring device, and evolved into an innovative C4I company (command, control, communications, computers and intelligence), as well as the world’s largest operator of systems used to collect fares on public transportation systems, such as the MetroCard used in New York City. Cubic aggregates field data into centralized systems, building interactive command centers and displays for military, security, surveillance, and training purposes, at places including the Nellis Air Force Range in Nevada.
