Laurel Hill Park is a county park established at the base of the largest natural hill in the Meadowlands (though not quite natural anymore, as most of the hill was removed over decades of use as a quarry). The area around the hill has a complicated past. The site has been a church, a poor farm, an insane asylum, and a prison. The hill was called Snake Hill, due to the large amount of snakes in the area. The hill is sometimes cited as the inspiration for the Prudential Insurance Company’s rock logo (though most insiders say that the source is clearly the Rock of Gibraltar). There are said to be chambers hollowed out inside the hill too.
