Adirondack Airport is the main airport inside Adirondack Park. It was built on 1,200 acres of land donated to the town of Harrietstown, near Saranac Lake, by the Paul Smith Electric Company in 1940. Developed primarily with federal funds for strategic purposes, the airport opened to the public in 1949. It currently only has scheduled passenger service with Boston (via Cape Air). It is used by recreational pilots, and for chartered jets bringing visitors to the park, as well as by affluent residents (and guests) using their summer homes.
